Hexagons for Him & Her!

Alliterated titles make me happy, haha...
Anyway, I got a new box of goodies and took some time to play with them. I wondered if I might need to get the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig when I got this new set, but I thought I'd try it myself first. annnd now I'm thinkin' I better get it!! haha! (the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig is a tool to help you line up your images. I asked a demo friend about it years ago and she said she feels like it takes away from the "homemade" look. I definitely am NOT a perfectionist so I haven't cared much....til now!)

So here's a masculine card. I was just playing around with it this time... some of it lined up with no problem and then others didn't turn out so nicely, and yes, I have the clear mount stamps.
Supplies:
Stamps: Six Sided Sampler
Ink: Midnight Muse, Wild Wasabi, Smoky Slate
Paper: Smoky Slate, Whisper White
Accessories: Hexagon Punch

And this one uses the current Freshly Made Sketch. When I first looked at that sketch I thought "what the heck would I do with a curve?!" but the samples turned out adorable...I chose to do a hexagon collage with my curved piece, haha!
and here's a close up so you can better see the rhinestones I put on the Wisteria spaces.
Supplies:
Stamps: Six Sided Sampler
Ink: Melon Mambo, Wisteria Wonder, Coastal Cabana
Paper: Melon Mambo & Whisper White card stocks
Accessories: Rhinestones

A Look Back

I've mentioned before that I am part of a group that has monthly scrapbooking goals. This is a good thing for me because it encourages me to meet a goal I set for myself, and when its broken into monthly increments its less overwhelming and often times, scrapbooking gets done!! Since that is my primary paper-crafting passion, that's important to me.
A new person recently joined the group to start scrapbooking. She posted her first page, which was amazing, lol. Someone mentioned they wouldn't be willing to share their first page and I thought that was actually a really great idea! *grin
I don't know if others will play along, but I am going to post my first pages right here for the world to see, hahaha...

The year was 1995...I was 15 years old and invited to attend the women's group activity at church. Someone came from some scrapbook store in the "really big city" about an hour away, and taught us how to use stamps in scrapbooks. Up to this point the stamps my mom had were used to stamp on lined paper or our arms.... seriously. haha! The person had a plastic grid and showed us how to stamp inside every other block on the grid, and the color in the newly stamped images with markers. They had markers that were dual tipped to do the edges with. I brought it home and hunted for pictures of me doing "performing art". I felt that this page was so beautiful and deserved pictures of me "improving the world". Go a head and giggle as hard as I am now.......
The thing was, I was now hooked. I could make my own personal history and feature photos- two of my favorite topics!! Within a year, I needed to show off something I had made that represented "ME" at another church activity, so my mom and I got to work putting together my life up to that time. Here are two samples of what we did...

Full sheets of patterned papers, cutting around the subject, funky scissors and minimal journaling...that's how we started! And I really love that the second sample here has holes punched in it because our first sheet protectors were the office style, haha. Soon I moved on to adding themed stickers like a crazy person and eventually I discovered stamps and my style has become everything else you can find on this blog. But here's my beginning.
Are you willing to share yours? *smile

Old pictures, Old supplies

Today's project is a brand new page, made of retired product and old pics. I haven't printed off pictures for a while, so I went thru what I had to find something I felt like scrapping. I had 6 little stacks of photos ready to go...but spent all my "free time" looking for when the photos were taken! lame.... lol... So I only got this page put together so far.
I used the newly retired Certainly Celery for the base, but found an old Simply Scrappin' Kit for the DP and stickers. I also used THIS sketch for the layout!

Supplies:
Stamps: ABC123 Sketch
Ink: Tempting Turquoise
Paper: Certainly Celery, Tempting Turquoise & Whisper White card stocks, retired Simply Scrappin' Kit from 2011? Sale-A-Bration

A soft card...

Happy Friday to you! Any fun plans for the weekend?
This card was inspired by a card in the newest demonstrator magazine. I love that the magazine is full of ideas my customers haven't already seen! I loved that they had a Crumb Cake card with a raised Crumb Cake layer! I would never think of something like that! I have done Vanilla on Vanilla, but other than that it doesn't cross my mind and I really liked the look! I decided to emboss that layer to make it stand out a bit more, and I also used the current Retro Sketch with this card. And since the Crumb Cake gave it a soft neutral base I chose soft colors to stamp with!
Supplies:
Stamps: Summer Silhouettes
Ink: Pear Pizazz, So Saffron, Wisteria Wonder, Blushing Bride
Paper: Crumb Cake, Pear Pizazz, Pink Pirouette & Very Vanilla card stocks
Accessories: Linen Thread, Chevron Embossing Folder, Big Shot

A bright card!

Today's card is bright and happy! I used the current CAS sketch, tho this card didn't turn out very CAS...I wanted to play with all the images so I did! Even if they turned out a little wonky....sigh! Instead of making flags I used the border image, which has the little points so it worked for me, too bad it didn't come out straight...just pretend! *grin
Supplies:
Stamps: Creative Elements
Ink: Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight, Melon Mambo, Coastal Cabana
Paper: Daffodil Delight, Coastal Cabana & Whisper White card stocks

Playtime!

Yes its true, I finally got to stamp today!! It's been a couple weeks now, but a super windy day while recovering from a migraine seemed to be a good time to stay indoors and create something new! Hooray for that! And now I have new posts ready to go for the next couple days!

The first card I'll share used a recent Freshly Made Sketch, tho I missed the deadline... It's a quick and simple card, but I'm happy with it. The color scheme came from me looking at the ribbons I had to choose from for the little flag on the side, haha!

Supplies:
Stamps: The Open Sea
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Soft Suede, Coastal Cabana, Whisper White, Night of Navy
Paper: Night of Navy, Cherry Cobbler & Crumb Cake card stocks
Accessories: Denim Jean Ribbon

Photos and Paper

Back when I started scrapbooking, that's all it took- photos and papers. And today's layout was inspired by THIS sketch, which is all about the photos and DP. I had a ton of pictures of this day, so I really liked that it just lets the photos and paper do the talking! No title for this page, just journaling.

I do have quite a story to tell in that blank yellow section, but that will be another time. It was a crazy day...we were waiting to see a final event in the construction of a new LDS temple...first it poured and poured, then the wind was too strong, and finally the sun came out and it was hot! But we were happy to be there for it, and there are a few dozen pics that didn't make the page! With all that crazy weather, I thought the clouds and umbrella prints in this newly retired DP worked perfectly. And I'm sorry about the glare, can't tell you how many times I tried to get a decent shot of this layout!
Supplies:
Paper: So Saffron card stock, Sunshine & Sprinkles DP

Today I am off making more memories with my kids and some friends, enjoying summer. But I took some extra time yesterday and got these photos scrapped! Its about time, they're getting old, haha... I used Cheryl's June sketch, and I also used a VSBN challenge to "go green!". What are you up to?

A Layout

Since my computer still hasn't been fixed, I needed to show a traditional page at my workshop. This one is super simple, but I really like it. I featured three prints from the Epic Day DP, the Epic Day washi tape, and the brand new ABC set that I am loving!
I love how easy the Epic Day DP is to use, and how much it adds to any project- it looks like I did a lot of work when really I just cut two strips, a square, and some of the hexagons!
(And yes, you've already seen these pictures, her layout is HERE and his is HERE. This layout is for my book. however, this allows me to show how the same pics can create complete different pages. Same goes for stamps.)
Supplies:
Stamps: ABC123 Sketch
Ink: Basic Gray
Paper: Epic Day DP, Basic Gray card stock
Accessories: Epic Day Washi Tape

Make & Take!

Today I want to show off the Make & Take from Saturday's workshop. Confession: it was 98% CASE'd from a card I found on the website where Demonstrators can post and share their creations. I went to LeAnne's blog and can link you to her card HERE. I was kind of at a loss as to what to feature, and her card gave me exactly the push that I needed. I just layered it on the Coastal Cabana cardstock to let people play with new stuff. And I used our new Rotary stamp, but her card features one of the greeting sets that is discounted right now! How's that for inspired?!
Supplies:
Stamps: Summer Silhouettes, Remember This rotary stamp
Ink: Crumb Cake, Calypso Coral, Coastal Cabana, Basic Gray
Paper: Epic Day DP, Coastal Cabana & Very Vanilla card stocks
Accessories: Epic Day washi tape!!, Very Vintage Buttons, White Baker's Twine

And because I know you're asking, the recipe for the treat can be found HERE. It is SOO yummy! The topping is so crumbly it keeps coming off, (seriously, I bet half of it has fallen off!) and we're just collecting it in a bowl. My husband requested vanilla ice cream to sprinkle the topping onto!

Blog Hop: You're The Man!

Yep, its time for another Blog Hop!
Today's theme was selected by Cathee, and its all about celebrating the men in our lives! Be sure to stop by everyone's blog for plenty of masculine inspiration!
Many people struggle with masculine cards, I think because we crafters want to put ribbons and other pretty things on the cards that guys aren't really in to. *grin. I took this challenge and ran with it- I was surprised with as many of my favorite masculine sets retiring that I still had so many current! Hooray for that!

Today is also Day 1 of the new catalog so you know I'm going to have new products to show off!!
Starting with the alphabet set on this scrapbook page for my son, doing a manly project (re-shingling a roof!) with his dad, uncle and adult cousin! haha! Can't get much more masculine than that!
Supplies:
Stamps: ABC123 Sketch Alphabet & Numbers, Lovely As A Tree
Ink: Gumball Green, Basic Gray
Paper: Basic Gray, Epic Day DP
Accessories: Natural Ribbon, Vintage Trinkets, Staple

Next up, I have a very simple card using a recent Freshly Made Sketch. I love the woodgrain with the acorns, and of course Linen Thread has got to be one of my favorite guy accessories, hee hee. This features two of the new In Colors. I gotta say, the Baked Brown Sugar shade is a good brown. Its "warmer" and a bit gold-ish.
Supplies:
Stamps: Wonderfall, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: Crumb Cake, Early Espresso
Paper: Pistachio Pudding, Crumb Cake, Baked Brown Sugar
Accessories: Linen Thread, Woodgrain Embossing Folder, Big Shot

Finally, we have this card which was, ahem, inspired by a recent Retro Sketch. haha! I thought the map paper from the Epic Day DP went well with this ship! And the Natural Trim is another perfect-for-guys accessory. Its ribbon without being girly.
Supplies:
Stamps: The Open Sea
Ink: Basic Gray
Paper: Epic Day DP, Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla card stocks
Accessories: Natural Trim

That's it for me, but I hope I've helped spark some ideas for the Father's Day cards, or birthdays, or whatever you may have coming up for the men in your life too!
Now go see what Julie has created!
