100 Years!!!

In just a couple of weeks, my father in law turns 100. Really, really. I shared about his 90th birthday celebration HERE, and there will be a celebration once again.

I had discussed an idea with my husband and selected the paper and stamps I wanted to use to make him a birthday card, but hadn't sat down and done it. Then I saw the Color Throwdown colors and knew that was a match, so I got to work! Ordinarily, I probably wouldn't call Copper Clay a shade of red, but on the top strip of DP I think that looks red, so that makes it fit! These were the DP sheets I had planned to include!

The stamps and dies are long retired, but the DP is in this catalog, haha... We do have current number dies (which I own, but they were too small for this design), and a current airplane stamp available, but this is what I used.
Supplies:
Stamps: Sky Is the Limit (retired)
Ink: Copper Clay
Paper: Boho Blue, Night of Navy & Basic White card stocks, Take to the Sky DP
Accessories: 2023-25 In Color Dots (retired), Dimensionals, Large Numbers Framelits Dies (retired), big shot (retired)
Font: Courier New

I actually stacked three sets of the 1-0-0 to make it bolder. The plane is popped up on Dimensionals, and the banner the plane is pulling was typed on the computer. I put a lot of time and thought into this card and got a couple other opinions too, ha. My FIL will simply love the thought, but I think the pressure was on because I've never made a 100th birthday card before! Have you?

The Sky Is the Limit!

Today I have a layout featuring current DP (that is actually on sale for just a couple more days!!) combined with an old stamp set. I often keep my stamp sets, but this one was specifically kept because later the same year it was released, my daughter flew a plane, and I wanted to use it for her scrapbook page, ha! Right now there is a similar plane set, with really great dies available, that coordinates perfectly with this DP. You can order that if you love this suite. But I already have this one.....

Background story- when I was a child, the only occupation I felt someone 'couldn't do' based on gender, was nursing. When I was 7 and broke my arm, I was shocked that the hospital nurse was a man. In fact I told him men can't be nurses.... Men can be doctors, but only women could be nurses. Sure, women could be doctors too. But that was too weird to my child brain.
Fast forward many years and not once, but TWICE in the same year, this daughter of mine learned, that women can do anything- be a politician OR a skilled pilot! She was in such awe of a female stunt pilot at the air show, that she decided to be a pilot too. Our family has never flown anywhere, altho my husband and I have flown individually. After a few months of making big plans and big dreams to be a pilot, my husband learned she could go on a short flight with the flight school at one of the local universities. And he set a date for it!

She has since decided she no longer wants to be a pilot, but she is still so proud of this day. Over the past few years, any time there's been a get-to-know-you activity, flying a plane always comes up. So it is way past time to get this scrapped for her!
Supplies:
Stamps: Sky Is The Limit (retired)
Ink: Boho Blue, Smoky Slate
Paper: Boho Blue & Basic White card stocks, Take it to the Sky DP (on sale!)
Accessories: 2023-25 In Color Dots

Father's Day!

Hello again!!! You knew I'd come back, didn't you? haha...
It's been eleven days, but a ton has happened!
We actually loaded up and moved to my parents from Monday to Wednesday, and yes, most of our things are in a storage unit.
We cleaned the house completely (with help!) Wednesday.
I vegged Thursday. I'm not kidding, I parked myself on the couch with my laptop and caught up on all sorts of stuff, and pretty much did not move all day, haha! This has been a ton of work...
Friday we closed on the sale!
And Monday I went back to work!!
So it took til today (Friday, again) before I had a second to stamp! And it was about exactly that- a second. And it was a challenge! Finding current supplies and where they'd all been stashed was tricky! haha...!

So!! Today I used a just-passed TGIF sketch and made two Father's Day cards using brand new In Colors and products!
...and one retired stamp set... because I couldn't resist!

First up, 100% current supplies:
Supplies:
Stamps: In The Meadow
Ink: Tip Top Taupe, Old Olive
Paper: Emerald Envy, So Saffron, Crumb Cake, Whisper White
Accessories: Linen Thread, In Color Enamel Accents, Dimensionals, Stamping Sponge

And then everything here is current except the stamps on the main panel...
Supplies:
Stamps: Sky Is The Limit, May 2016 Paper Pumpkin Kit
Ink: Dapper Denim
Paper: Dapper Denim, Crumb Cake, Whisper White card stocks
Accessories: Dapper Denim ribbon, Dimensionals

So, Father's Day cards are now taken care of, and if things go as planned, we'll see both grandpa's on Father's Day too! Yeay!

Aside from that, the other news is this...
My friend happened to snap this picture the day before the ultrasound and we were able to use this photo to publicly announce that this picture shows all three girls in the family! Lots of happy, exciting news filling our days!

And I would love to promise I'll be back with more stamped projects next week.......!

Blog Hop: Step It Up!

Hello and welcome back! A new month means a new Blog Hop and we are ready for you!
I really wanted to feature this fun Sale-A-Bration stamp set, because it will only be around another two weeks!!! (yes really! The items on pages 16 and 19 are only available until Feb 15! Don't miss your chance to get them FREE!)

So I decided to design a card to stick in my son's lunch box! I started with the latest TGIF Challenge Remix, using the sketch and color combo. I chose to use the starry DP for the starry background, with the greeting in the bottom right corner. And I used the black and "gold" for the first card.
Then I stepped it up!
At my card class last Monday, one of the attendees altered THIS card by stamping the plane and cutting it out, but placing it the same, so that it hung off like mine, except you could see all of hers. Make sense? I liked the idea of cutting out the plane, and I added a mini brad and bits of ribbon, then popped the plane and greeting up on Dimensionals. That meant I had the full color combo of silver, black and gold! And the ribbon is totally not girly, and I really think my son will love it!
Supplies:
Stamps: Sky Is The Limit
Ink: Memento Black
Paper: Very Vanilla, Basic Black card stocks, Going Places DP
Accessories: 1/8 Silver Ribbon, Silver Mini Brads, Dimensionals

Here's a little close up of the embellishments...
And since I used Sale-A-Bration items I'll be linking up with the Nacho Average Challenge blog too!

Now, carry on to Lynn's blog and see what she stepped up! Then hop on thru everybody's creations, and leave us your thoughts! We all love comments!

(and yes, we're missing a few bloggers this time around...)

Valentines - Round 2

Okay, have you seen the Sale-A-Bration mini? Do you know how it works?? For every $50 you spend, you can choose a Sale-A-Bration exclusive item for FREE. This is my favorite Stampin' Up! promotion every year because there is always something I fall in love with- often lots of things! These things are only available as Sale-A-Bration freebies, and they are only available until it ends, which this year is March 31.
Something else important to notice...today's featured stamp set is found on page 16. This, along with the DP and the stamp set found on page 19 are only available until February 15th!!! That's even more limited-time than the whole promotion is! So if you love any of those three items, you'll want to grab them ASAP!
This fabulous airplane had to come home with my latest order because I have a weird obsession with all things travely, haha!

Today I have another two cards for you, haha, but this time it was totally deliberate. I wanted to use last week's Mojo Monday sketch with this stamp set, I just didn't get to play in time. My greeting square is much smaller than the sketch called for, but it works.
I also chose this greeting to show the versatility of the same supplies for any occasion you might need.
Supplies:
Stamps: Sky Is The Limit
Ink: Lost Lagoon, Smoky Slate
Paper: Lost Lagoon, Very Vanilla card stocks, Going Places DP
Accessories: Natural Chevron Ribbon, Dimensionals

Then I had to adjust the sketch to fit the heart in the jet stream (what do you call it when it isn't coming from a jet??) so that it can be part of my Valentines Class!
Supplies:
Stamps: Sky Is The Limit
Ink: Lost Lagoon, Smoky Slate
Paper: Lost Lagoon, Very Vanilla card stocks, Going Places DP
Accessories: Natural Chevron Ribbon, Dimensionals

What do you think?? Well, I think the non-traditional colors totally work for Valentines with an airplane! It's a great man-card! And it happens to be a great man-card any time of year!!
And because the stamp set is only going to be around for six weeks, you can definitely expect to see it more too!
