Go Mom!

This one is from the OCC challenge last week, but it had to be delivered first! :D
I asked for this image on Wish-RAK a long time ago, and then it arrived when my blender pens were no good. So this is the first time I got to play with it. My mom has been doing Weight Watchers for a while now and has sort of plateaued, so I thought maybe some fun card like this might brighten her day. The girl is totally NOT my mom...pig tails? belly shirt? ROFL. But look how happy she is and how hard she's worked...!
It is an odd sort of color combination, but I think it worked out, and when you're making something like this, its nice to use the person's favorite colors, lol!
Supplies:
Stamps: Weightwatchabella (Stamping Bella), Sending Happy Thoughts card kit (retiring!!!) Ink: Black, Ruby Red Paper: Almost Amethyst, Lovely Lilac, Ruby Red, white card stocks Accessories: Watercolor Wonder Crayons, Blender Pens, EE brads, Fairy Tale ribbon (retired)

Eternal winter...

is making me absolutely crazy. its snowed hard two days this week, rained most of the day yesterday and every thing is muddy and gray. I am usually one to be grateful for the water because I can't stand living in drought conditions. But its April 17th and still winter...lets move on now! We have Spring Break right now, and between a sick child AGAIN and the obnoxious snow, this one is not quite as fun as last year... But since I have a big card class tonight and have spent the last two evenings prepping, today will be spent with my kids. We might play some games or do some puzzles...I don't know. But something FUN is definitely required.

In the meantime, here is a new, SPRING card to show, now that I've given it to my friend, lol! It was for a challenge on SCS to use soft yellow, soft blue and soft brown, and also uses the sketch from OCC last week. Supplies:

Stamps: Pick A Petal, Sending Happy Thoughts Ink: Close to Cocoa Paper: Bashful Blue, Barely Banana, Close to Cocoa Accessories: Word Window Punch, Wide Oval Punch, 1/2 inch circle punch, N/EE Buttons (Retired!) So, HAPPY SPRING!!!! Hope its sunny where you are... lol

So here is a fabulous, warm card for Julee's Mojo Sketch 76. I really like her sketches- they're easy for me to work with! ...however, I wonder if I over-thought this card...lol!

And a detail shot so you can see the dotty strip across the bottom!

A color challenge!

I haven't played along with the color challenges on kwerner's blog in months! Last night I saw there was a new one and I wasn't past the deadline, so I put this together today. The colors are not ones I would have used together so this is a good chance to make me stretch! LOL!

Its another birthday card for another sweet friend, and I think she'll like the colors. I just hope I didn't use this stamp for her already! I use this one a lot for freind cards....it just looks dreamy to sit chatting face to face with a friend. One day it will be warm again and we have better chances to DO that! haha!

Funky birthday

At least I think so... :) I needed a card for a friend who is just a little more funky and edgy. Flowers (at least any I own) just wouldn't work for her birthday! She is also a super busy mom so I thought this image was great for her, and the dots on the DP really seemed to speak to me. (the flash sure hit that brad right, didn't it??)

Inspiration gone awry...

Happy October?! Wow!

This card started as pieces inspired by Beate's inspiration piece. I was going to try the whole blocked background and I had colored the flowers, picked the Rose Red and the More Mustard.....and my husband asked if I had a pretty card for his niece. Hmmmmmmm....... So this is how it ended up! hee hee!

Don't get me wrong, its a pretty card, and I like it, its just not what I sat down to make tonight. And that is ok! :) Maybe I'll take some time and play with the piece later, but until then here it is:

Supplies: Stamps: Embrace Life, Sending Happy Thoughts ~ Ink: Stazon Black Rose Red, Always Artichoke, White Craft ~ Paper: Rose Red, More Mustard & Whisper White card stocks ~ Accessories: Mat Pack, Stamping Sponges, White Grosgrain Ribbon

Stamp Challenges

I DID get to stamp! Hooray! So here are some challenge cards! This first one comes from Taylored Expressions Cupcake Challenge #19, found here. I don't have any cupcake stamps, but I have had this scallop punch thing done for a while. It fit the sketch so I used that! I have a Pretty in Pink card base, a card front cut from the Berry Bliss paper, a strip of Pretty in Pink card stock across the middle. On that I tied some Chocolate Chip taffeta ribbon, stamped the words from Fresh Cuts, and added the circle, which is a Close to Cocoa scallop punch, with the little dots punched out of the 'petals', then topped width a chipboard circle which I covered in the Sprinkles Chunky Glitter from the Occasions mini. I also added four Pink Brads to the corners of the card. Its simple but I like it. This second card comes from Jen's Saturday Sketch, and I'm showing my card on a Monday, which seems to be the norm for me... what is it about weekends?! LOL! For this one, I started with the bottom half of the card! I stamped the flower stamp from Boho Backgrounds in Summer Sun ink, on Very Vanilla card stock. Then what...? I mounted it onto Cameo Coral card stock, and added the wide Old Olive grosgrain ribbon. Then I stamped the butterfly from Time Well Spent in Basic Black and colored her with my Pastels and Blender Pens. I stamped the words from my Simply Sent kit in Summer Sun and sponged the edges of that piece with Coral ink. It looks a little weirdly done but oh well. I mounted that onto Old Olive card stock and added the Summer Sun arch piece, which looks a little bit like a setting sun!

Color Inspiration #9

Another much-mentioned spot for inspiration is on kwernerdesign. I'm really liking this idea of people setting the "rules" for a stamp project, so here is my little creation based on this challenge.
I thought with the Turquoise in there it had a tropical-feel. Maybe its just chaos, I don't know...! But it was fun to try something new!
All the colors you see here (except the white) were required. That was kind of hard for me to use so many colors! I have Old Olive for the base, a mat of Real Red and then stamped my flowers in Tempting Turquoise, So Saffron and Pumpkin Pie. Oh and leaves in Old Olive. I tied this fabulous Real Red striped grosgrain ribbon around the bottom of the image and stamped my greeting in Real Red too. That's it!

Be Inspired Challenge #10

I loved Beate's choice for the inspiration piece. Pretty, soft, spring-y colors! I wanted to do the baby-wipe technique to keep the softness there, so I needed a bold flower image. I picked Sending Happy Thoughts for that. I think it made a tropical looking card! I used Soft Sky for the base, a very thin layer of Chocolate Chip card stock for the mat and then Whisper White for the main image. I used Barely Banana, So Saffron and the retired Buckaroo Blue ink refills dripped onto a baby wipe to be used as my ink pad. The only *thing* is you have to clean the stamp each time, which gets tedious. I paper-pierced two rows on the White sheet and put that part at the bottom. (Had to play with my new Mat Pack that I FINALLY got!) Then I tied some White Grosgrain and stamped a greeting from the retired Happy Harmony set, in Chocolate Chip ink.

Sparkly Blue & Bright!

Two card using unique colors for me...imagine that! This first one I actually stamped a couple days ago. I caught a few minutes of a home-decorating show and they were painting lamps and things using colors awfully similar to River Rock, Bordering Blue and Night of Navy! I have never once used Bordering Blue! I only have it in marker anyway, which actually doesn't work so well with the shadowy part of this flower stamp... I also added River Rock double stitched ribbon and some dazzling diamonds glitter to add bling to the focal point. I think this card is fantastic! This bright card I stamped last night. I've been wanting to do these butterflies more like Monarch butterflies, which are one of my favorites. I really love doing the Rock-n-Roll technique with these butterflies! So, I used So Saffron (my favorite shade of yellow) with Only Orange, and then a touch of Gable Green. Its a softer, bright green. And the colors look a lot like the rainbow sherbet we had the other day...lemon, orange and lime! Then I added the white grosgrain and a birthday greeting and I'm very happy with it. See, I knew today would go better!
